Meet Dr. Harris - Hip and Knee Surgeon in San Antonio
Adam I. Harris, MD, FAAOs
Fellowship Trained Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Adult Reconstruction, Joint Replacement
Dr. Harris is known for introducing tissue-sparing techniques for hip and knee replacement to San Antonio and South Texas. These techniques are distinguished in that they do not cut into muscles and in that they limit or eliminate the use of force to complete the surgery. They allow for a more rapid recovery than was possible before or is possible with other techniques.
The direct anterior hip replacement, combined with some aspects of other tissue-sparing techniques, results in a very rapid return to normal function. Patients are usually ready to walk home the evening of or the morning after surgery. Most patients note only soreness, no pain. Patients who receive total knee replacements are also walking the same day and are often ready to go home the day after. In both cases, home health or formal inpatient rehabilitation are rarely needed. Dr. Harris has designed many instruments that facilitate these approaches and improve accuracy and reliability. Included amongst these are two United States Patents.
Dr. Harris is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and fellowship trained in Adult Reconstruction. He now serves as an examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He trained at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center under Dr. Jorge Galante, an internationally recognized pioneer and expert in adult reconstruction. He earned top honors at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and graduated cum laude from Yale majoring in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. Originally in San Antonio as part of a large group, Dr. Harris founded San Antonio Orthopaedic Specialists in 2002 in order to maintain the focus on individual patient care. Dr. Harris wrote the mission statement for the group and invites you to become part of our family.

What Patients Are Saying About Dr. Harris
Dr. Harris and his entire staff are a Godsend to humanity. These are the utmost professionals and the best in the business of orthopedics. I could not walk or bear the pain before surgery. After Dr. Harris and his team of gifted staff, not only was the pain gone, but I was able to return to Big Bend National Park to hike, climb mountains, and feel like a normal human being.
I have led a normal life now because these talented and caring individuals made me whole again.

I cannot express my thanks to the team during these years I have been going to them! My surgery recovery was great with little pain! One knee down and now one to go!

I was referred to Dr. Harris by two friends who have had knee replacement surgery and are doing great. I’ve been in pain for years and have had physical therapy, injections, and arthroscopic surgery with another Doctor. The other Doctor and staff never checked up on me and my recovery was horrible. From the moment I met Dr. Harris and his staff, they were very caring and informative about my next step. I will be getting my knee replacement soon and I’m confident I’m at the right place.
