What is a biceps tendon rupture?
A biceps tendon rupture can occur in one or two tendons
A biceps tendon rupture is the tearing or complete separating of one of the two tendons that attach the biceps muscle to the bone. The bicep is located in the upper arm and has two tendons: the long head and the short head. These tendons connect the biceps muscle to the shoulder (long head) and the forearm (short head) bones, allowing the muscle to flex the elbow and rotate the forearm.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF a biceps tendon rupture?
The most common symptoms of a tendonitis include:
Sudden, sharp pain in the upper arm or elbow
Weakness in bending the elbow or rotating the forearm
A visible deformity or a "popeye" appearance in the arm, especially in distal biceps tendon ruptures
Bruising and swelling in the affected area
