Dr. Broome’s Take On A Patient Looking For A Second Opinion

Let’s face it, making medical decisions is stressful, and ensuring you make the right decision for your medical condition is overwhelming.

Due to this uncertainty, we understand you may want to consider a second opinion. Ensuring you are working with a doctor that you can trust and feel comfortable with should be the first and most important step in your medical journey. However, if you are still considering a second opinion, Dr. Brandon Broome shares his insight on ‘second opinions’ for any patient on the lookout.

[When a patient says] “I'm here for a second opinion.” Or, “I want to get a second opinion before I decide to do the surgery,” I encourage that!

Dr. Broome believes a patient needs to know the right questions to ask during a consultation, and sometimes those don't really come to mind until you walk out of the door of a doctor’s office. Therefore, a patient may leave his office certain until questions or doubts bubble up once they process the information they were given.

If someone sees me and, and they're doubtful after they see me, then yes, I want them to go get another opinion.

Dr. Broome feels very confident that, based on the work the specialists at San Antonio Orthopedic Specialists do, the research and the outcome provided to patients is good, if not, better than that of most other orthopedic practices. However, there is an understanding that sometimes a patient's diagnosis is not something they expected or they simply want someone else to confirm the diagnosis as a means of precaution.

I think it's important that you get any bit of information that you can to make you at peace with your decision.

He welcomes any aid that will help a patient solidify and be confident with the decision they are making–even if that means seeking the guidance of another doctor or a ‘second opinion.’

If you are in search of a second opinion or need a first-time consultation to discuss your orthopedic condition, consider scheduling an appointment at San Antonio Orthopedic Specialists with Dr. Broome or any of our orthopedic specialists.
