Amanda Marshall-Rodriguez, M.D.
After extensive training in minimally invasive hip and knee replacements and complex revision joint reconstructions, Dr. Marshall returned to her home state of Texas. Born and raised in South Texas, she is committed to providing patient-centered care to the region. Her medical training began at The University of Texas Medical School in Houston where she graduated with the faculty's top honor given to a graduating senior medical student -- the Ross C. Sterling Award. In addition, she was nominated as a junior medical student to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Her tradition of excellence continued during her residency at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina receiving numerous awards relating to orthopaedic research and patient care including the American Orthopaedic Association-Zimmer Resident Research Award and the CMC Outstanding Clinical Research Award. With an interest in geriatric bone health, she also developed the hospital’s first Outpatient Fragility Fracture Care Program to identify and treat elderly patients with osteoporotic fractures.
Upon graduating from her residency and research fellowship, Dr. Marshall then completed a joint reconstruction fellowship at Rush University in Chicago, IL. World-renowned for minimally invasive arthroplasty, Rush University provided an unparalleled environment to learn state-of-the-art surgical techniques from the pioneers in such techniques. She also became well versed in complex hip and knee revision surgery addressing joint replacements. After her fellowship completion, Dr. Marshall joined the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center’s Department of Orthopaedics in San Antonio. As a merit to her clinical studies and research in the area of hip and knee replacement biomaterials, she has been awarded the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society Academic Traveling Fellowship Award, the American Orthopaedic Association Career Development Award, the AOA North American Traveling Fellowship, and the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation/American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Research Grant in Adult Reconstruction.
She continues to lecture worldwide on her research expertise specifically on the topic of highly cross-linked polyethylene and its effects on various cell types within the body. She is a guest lecturer and teacher for various nationwide courses on hip and knee arthroplasty. Recently, Dr. Marshall brought her expertise to private practice, joining the San Antonio Orthopaedic Specialists as their newest Joint Reconstruction Specialist. She remains actively involved in research in bio-materials and the use of our body’s stem cells for future regenerative potential. In addition, she is a member of the Orthopaedic Research Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. She is also very involved in humanitarian efforts through her non-profit charity, Women Orthopedists Global Outreach, providing free knee replacements to those around the globe via Operation Walk as well as those in need locally through OpWalk USA.
